    RYOBI® measuring instruments FAQs

    How do laser thermometers work?

A RYOBI® infrared thermometer safely measures surface temperature from a distance. They work by capturing the invisible infrared energy that all objects emit. A lens inside the tool focuses this energy onto a sensor, which instantly calculates and displays a precise temperature reading.

The laser dot is simply an aiming guide to show you exactly where you're measuring for pinpoint accuracy – it doesn't measure the temperature itself. This technology enables you to obtain instant, safe readings on hot or hard-to-reach objects, eliminating the guesswork from your DIY projects.

What is a cross-line laser level?

A cross-line laser is a levelling instrument that projects one perfectly horizontal and one perfectly vertical laser line onto a surface at the same time. The point where these two lines intersect creates a precise 90-degree cross.

This makes a green or red cross line laser an incredibly useful tool for a wide range of DIY tasks that require accurate alignment, such as hanging a gallery wall, setting out tiles or installing kitchen units

How to use a cross-line laser level

    Using a RYOBI® cross-line laser is straightforward.

Place the tool on a stable surface or mount it on a tripod with the clamp provided. Switch it on, and the self-levelling mechanism will automatically project a true horizontal and vertical line in seconds.

Once the lines are solid, they are perfectly level and ready to use as your guide for hanging cabinets, tiling or aligning pictures. You can also engage the manual mode to lock the laser and project lines at any angle you need.

    Do laser levels measure distance?

A laser level, such as a cross-line laser, projects a visible, level line onto a surface to act as a reference for alignment. A laser distance measurer calculates the precise distance between the tool and a target point. RYOBI® offers both types of tools to cover all your layout and measuring needs.

How do laser distance measurers work?

A RYOBI® laser distance measurer, or digital tape measure, works by sending a pulse of laser light to a target and measuring the precise time it takes for the beam to reflect to a sensor. The tool instantly uses this time measurement to calculate the exact distance. This gives you a highly accurate reading in seconds, making measuring a much quicker and more reliable one-person job than using a traditional tape measure.
