Lawn care FAQ

When is the best time to start lawn care?

For a healthy, trimmed lawn, the best time to begin lawn care is in the spring, around March or April, when the grass is at least 5cm long. This is the best time to scarify your lawn, removing moss and other winter build-up. This should promote healthy lawn growth, which can be maintained with regular mowing through to the first frosts in late autumn.

What are the tools needed for lawn care?

Keeping your lawn lush all year round calls for more than a mower.

  • Lawn mowers for regular trimming
  • Hosepipes or sprinklers for watering your lawn
  • Edging shears to create neat borders
  • Lawn rakes to remove debris and fallen leaves
  • Lawn scarifiers to reduce thatch and moss buildup
  • Lawn spreaders for even distribution of seeds

How to store lawn equipment?

  1. Choose a suitable storage space. Ensure your storage area has a level floor, is completely dry, and airtight for protection.
  2. Ensure your lawn equipment is safe from water, as it could seriously damage your tools.
  3. Avoid storing your equipment where it could fall or cause injury to yourself or others. Store tools safely to prevent accidents.
  4. Always store your battery separately in a dry location. During the winter months, periodically check on your batteries to ensure they remain secure and fully charged.

What tool do you use to aerate your lawn?

A garden fork is the best tool to use for aerating your lawn. It’s a great DIY solution and ideal for small lawns. However, if your lawn is large or if you have heavy clay soil, use a hollow tine aerator instead.
