What are the different types of RYOBI^® batteries?

There are several types of power tool batteries available, each designed for specific tools and functions. They are categorised by Voltage (V) and Capacity (Ah).

Voltage (V) determines power output and tool compatibility. Higher voltage batteries (36V) provide more power for heavy-duty tasks, while lower voltage batteries (18V, 4V) are for less demanding tasks and tools. You cannot use 36V batteries in 18V tools or interchange chargers between different voltage ranges.

Capacity (Ah) indicates runtime; a higher capacity (e.g., 8.0Ah) means longer runtime than a lower capacity (e.g., 2.0Ah) at the same voltage. This helps match the right battery to your needs and ensures sufficient power for your tasks. However, advancements in battery technology can significantly extend device runtime and enhance performance. For instance, a RYOBI^® High Energy battery with advanced efficiency and energy management can provide longer runtimes.

RYOBI^® 18V ONE+™ batteries

RYOBI^® 18V ONE+™ are 18V lithium-ion batteries. They power over 200 tools belonging to the ONE+™ range, from circular saws to power washers.

Our RYOBI^® ONE+ battery selection uses a 'push in' fitting which has been consistent since 1996 making it one of the most compatible range ever - never leaving a customer behind. Meanwhile, IntelliCell™ technology offers individual cell monitoring that allows you to use up the battery without energy being wasted. Each cell gets balanced and fully charged, so capacity is always at 100% and ready to go. Encased in a durable structure, your battery and any tool it powers will last longer too.

Often, it makes sense to choose ONE+ RYOBI^® batteries based on energy capacity. Battery packs like 5.0Ah, 6.0Ah or 9.0Ah are perfect for maximising runtime and performance.

More compact capacity batteries like the 2.0Ah and the 2.5Ah batteries are better suited to more ergonomic tools and light-duty tasks such as hedge trimming.

36V MAX POWER RYOBI^® batteries

If you're looking for maximum power and superb runtime, the RYOBI^® 36V MAX POWER battery range has you covered. These batteries are exclusively compatible with our powerful garden tools across the RYOBI^® MAX POWER cordless tool range, including chainsaws and lawnmowers, offering an eco-freindly and efficient petrol alternative for outdoor needs.

Like the ONE+™ range, these Lithium+ 36V batteries have inbuilt IntelliCell™ technology, which monitors and balances individual cells inside the battery to make sure all cells discharge equally. This technology is key to increasing runtimes and improving overall safety, making these batteries a good option for anyone operating heavy-duty equipment.

4V USB Lithium™ RYOBI^® batteries

Enjoy portable power in your day-to-day with 4V USB Lithium™ batteries. If you're looking for a compact battery that keeps your tools performing for longer, the USB Lithium™ range is ideal.

Available in 2.0Ah and 3.0Ah variations, the 4V USB Lithium™ batteries and power banks are compatible with any USB Lithium™ tools, from inspection lights to soldering irons and screwdrivers.

They are easy to recharge through the USB-C port and have a green, yellow and red visual cue that allows you to keep a close eye on how much power is left. Charge time ranges from 80-120 minutes. The Powerbank feature on the 3.0Ah battery also means you can charge your smartphone and other electronic devices, allowing for further flexibility.

RYOBI^® battery chargers

When choosing a battery charger, it's important to consider what your everyday work demands of you. Do you need the capacity to charge batteries quickly? Do you need to be able to charge in the car? Do you need a charger that is portable and compact?

Your decision will depend on the type of RYOBI^® tools and batteries you use. For example, the ONE+™ batteries require a ONE+™ battery charger. However, there is variation within each range of battery chargers.

• 4V 3-Port Charger: Our 4V 3-Port Charger allows you to charge each 4V USB Lithium™ battery in turn. The level of charge is marked with indicator lights.
