Fastening Guide

Essential Fastening Tools

Whether the task involves drilling & screw driving, fastening small nuts and bolts or fastening large nuts and bolts, RYOBI has you covered. Wrenches are made in various shapes and sizes and are used for gripping, fastening, turning, tightening and loosening nuts and bolts. Like the cordless drill, an impact driver uses rotational force to drive a screw and saves its bursts of quick power when it feels resistance. RYOBI has everything for all your fastening automotive needs.

What Is A Wrench?

Wrenches are made in various shapes and sizes and are used for gripping, fastening, turning, tightening and loosening things like nuts and bolts. Wrenches are great tools for automotive work. RYOBIs Battery powered wrenches have a rechargeable battery, meaning they don’t require a power source. This makes them ideal for working on vehicles in tight spaces or in remote locations where no power source is available. Battery powered wrenches also provide a great deal of torque and have adjustable speed and torque settings for different types of bolts and nuts.

HOW DOES AN IMPACT WRENCH WORK?

An impact wrench uses a motor and spring to accelerate a rotating hammer. The hammer hits an anvil / output shaft and generate impact energy, which is transferred to spin the head of the impact wrench. This metal on metal action occurs over a few thousand times each minute. Generating 8x or more torque compared to a standard drill.

Choose the right tool for the right job

Using the right tool when fastening in automotive is extremely important. Using the wrong tool can cause damage to the fastener, the part being fastened, or the tool itself. It can also lead to an uneven, loose, or dangerous fit. Choosing the right tool ensures that the job is done safely and correctly. The right tool will also help to reduce the amount of time spent on the job and make it easier to complete.

When to use an impact driver or an impact wrench?

When deciding between an impact driver or an impact wrench, the main factor to consider is the size of the fastener. Impact drivers are designed for smaller fasteners, such as screws, whereas an impact wrench is designed for larger fasteners, such as bolts. Impact drivers are also excellent for drilling pilot holes into hardwood and other applications that require a lot of torque, while impact wrenches are often used for fastening large bolts and nuts. Impact drivers are more compact and lightweight than impact wrenches, but they do not provide as much torque. Impact wrenches, on the other hand, are powerful tools that can easily handle large fasteners and provide extra torque. Therefore, if you need to deal with large fasteners, an impact wrench is the tool of choice.
